Foam is where a cushion lives or dies, and the labels rarely help. Two numbers tell you most of what you need: density and resilience.
Density and resilience, plainly
Density is how much material is packed in — higher density lasts longer before it flattens. Resilience is how quickly the foam springs back. High-resilience foam supports without going dead under you.
- Higher density = longer life.
- Higher resilience = more support, less sag.
- "Memory foam" alone tells you almost nothing.
What to ask
Look for a stated density and a resilience rating, not just a brand name. A good cushion should still feel like itself a year in.
